Inktober Day 7: Cornus florida (Flowering Dogwood)

This has been an good year for berries.  It's particularly evident in winterberries and dogwoods, but I've noticed fruit set in general has been good.  It's a good year for acorns, too!

The flowering dogwoods (Cornus florida) planted around Beaver Lake are vivid now; their similarity of color suggests that a single cultivar was planted (their berries are a bit larger than the species, too).  In contrast, the trees at the end of the lake are more "normal"-looking in their fall color, probably more straight species.

They were hard to draw with curvy leaves and challenging branch patterns.  Hmm.  This is all about looking closely and having fun trying.  I'm actually thnking it would be fun to refer to my field sketching and drawing books for pointers!
