Inktober Day 28: A Sanguinaria leaf
I hadn't noticed before how Sanguinaria canadensis (bloodroot) leaves change color in the fall. Spotting a group of them, on a search for today's subject, I thought one of them would be an interesting change from the red leaves that I've been drawing recently.
A native wildflower of deciduous woodlands in the Eastern U.S., its showy white flowers are a highlight of early spring. I've written about the ones that have spread around in our woodland garden a number of times, always in spring. I was surprised at how many posts came up in this search on Natural Gardening!
Its leaves hadn't drawn my attention before, but this one was fun.
