Remarkably cold

We've never lived in a place that is snowy through the winter, so being in Quebec in January is a new experience, one that we've welcomed.  If we enjoy the wonderful summers here, we thought we should at least show up for at least a month in winter.  Wimpy, by northern standards, but give us credit for effort!  We've been loving it so far.

The polar vortex that's coming through, hmm, well, that's bringing exceptionally cold air here this weekend, even by Quebec standards.

The circle is our location in Bas St. Laurent.
Thankfully, this morning's low of -7° F didn't phase the new to-spec battery in my venerable Volvo XC wagon, a battery replaced under warranty thanks to my great mechanic back in Asheville (he thought the cranking capacity had dropped a bit low) and he was doing a thorough check, as he always does, but also knowing that we were driving to Canada in winter

So we'll have minus 11 F on Friday, and then Saturday night's low of -12° F -- well, we'll see.  It's then with highs in the aughts through Tuesday.

So maybe not quite as much skiing, but we'll bundle up, and give it a try.

Our house is about where the white circle is.  Thank goodness we're not farther north.

Since our historic house was thoroughly insulated with double-paned replacement windows by the previous owner, who also restored a wonderful historic wood stove, too, shown in this previous post, we've really been quite warm .

It's a great thing to have a wood stove humming along on a cold winter's night.

  1. Glad you are staying warm. It's 15 F here, which doesn't seem so bad.
