A familiar dance of travel

We're experienced travelers and I like to think good ones.  We're curious about the world and respectful and interested in other cultures.  I was reminded again today of the community of HomeExchange folks, receiving a lovely trip report this morning from our Freiburg HomeExchange friend, who's been in Perth, Australia for the last few weeks and will be heading home in a couple more.

This trip of ours is a winter adventure, back to our renovated schoolhouse cottage in Quebec, that we somehow bumbled into last year-- it's a driving trip this time, but still has the familiar dance of travel about it. I've written about different versions of this before.

This time, we've added:  do we have emergency cold weather gear while traveling? anti-icing windshield washer additive? Warm emergency blankets (in our case, heavy down sleeping bags)? Kitty litter and shovel for emergency digging out purposes?  etc.  to our lexicon of travel prep.

Meeting this afternoon with the lovely mom and daughter who will be house-sitting for us reminded me of our opportunities.

We're fortunate to have the opportunity ahead to travel to Canada and experience winter there -- it seems important, if we enjoy the wonderful summer, to know what winter's like a bit.

We trust that the vintage wood stove (in the foreground of the photo above) and all of the wood out in the solarium will be keeping us warm.

I imagine so.
