A simple porch planter

We create special places when we garden, whether it's a pocket meadow, a planting under the eaves, or a porch box.

I was thinking about a rare foray into a reflection about our political situation in the U.S. for my blog post this evening, but decided to stick with things that are places of the spirit.

We bought this old tool box soon after we bought our small house in Asheville a decade ago.  It's held up better than expected and been quite nice over the years.  It's close to retirement, I think, but still is holding on.

The other perennial plantings (Japanese Polygonum and Heuchera) in the box didn't fare well in the wet weather this summer, but oddly, the sedum has flourished.

It's lovely right now.
