Back home in Asheville

It's nice to be back in the mountains of Western North Carolina.  The final stretch home takes us on I-26 through the mountains from Johnson City, TN down to Asheville.  It was beautiful this afternoon.

It seems busy here in town,  as I took a quick dash to the grocery store for basic provisions and something for a quick dinner.

It's also dry here, so the Joe-Pye, Salvia guaranitica, and Vernonia -in the pocket meadow up front - well, they're all extremely droopy and sad-looking.  They'll be pruned back soon, that's for sure.  And the Silphium -- well, alas, it looks like all of its seeds have dispersed, not good news for next spring.

Remarkably, our quirky Gingko in front is leafy and green, thanks to early spring rains, I suppose.

But, happily, the standout is the one Aster oblongifoium that's still getting plenty of sun (and maybe water from our summer resident).

It was covered over with flower visitors of all types this afternoon!

    1. It was actually better to spread the long drive over 5 days instead of 2 1/2, but it is still a LOT of driving. We're glad to be back.
