Nice to be back home
It is nice to be back home here in Quebec, after a HomeExchange in a lovely area between Quebec City and Montreal, as our time here winds down. We'll return to Asheville, North Carolina soon.
A stop on our return, at the wonderful garden at Domaine Joly-De Lotbinere, just west of Quebec City, found us marvelling at these Chicken-of-the-Woods fungi, at the base of an oak tree near the entrance.
More importantly, the gardens were still in full swing -- quite amazing, with all sorts of late season perennials in flowers, actively being visited by bumblebees.
There were two hummingbirds whizzing around, too! It's pretty late in the season to be spotting them here.

Chicken of the woods -- this is an impressive patch! |

Lisa, these are spectacular mushrooms, but probably not chicken of the woods, which are polypores and have pores instead of gills. They also grow on tree trunks, not the base.

Hmm, what do you think they were? They seemed to have a resemblance to chicken-of-the-woods, but I hadn't considered the pore aspect when I read the description originally!
