Marsh views in the late afternoon

The salt marshes along the St. Lawrence River have now turned a tawny brown.  They're beautiful in the late afternoon light.  An excursion along the Sentier du Littoral (the path along the riverside) in Rimouski had us admiring and soaking in these views.

View towards the St. Lawrence

a vast salt march -- lovely!

Quite amazing.

I was thinking earlier today about alternative routes driving back to Asheville, and came to the conclusion that there was no reason for trying to visit coastal Maine or coastal Massachusetts with these views in our local landscape here.

I'm thinking more like Old Sturbridge Village, Garden in the Woods, and Mt. Cuba Center, but all require MUCH more travel along heavily-traveled interstate highways than I'd like.  And my gardening companion and Woody would be heading more directly home.

We'll see.
