Enjoying the French Broad River
We enjoyed another walk along the French Broad River this evening -- in the new greenway below the New Belgium Brewery.
I'll reprise a post from a couple of weeks ago with a couple of updated photos. It's a great place less than a 5 minute drive from our house.
A walk along the French Broad River, March 24, 2019
Our city is expanding greenways, especially along the section of the French Broad River that runs through Asheville. Much of the area is a former industrial and working corridor lined with old buildings now housing artists' studio in an area dubbed RAD (River Arts District). Much more is still industrial/working corridor both up and down river.
New Belgium Brewery, for their Eastern US site, chose to redevelop an abandoned Western North Carolina stockyard site a few years ago in RAD.
It's now become a vibrant place for folks to enjoy the river views and expansive areas surrounding their "Liquid Center." They tried to place as many natives as they could in their landscape, restored a degraded stream corridor near the brewery, and happily, there's now a lovely stretch of greenway below the brewery/Liquid Center complex, with additional greenways under construction across the river.
The view from the outside area at New Belgium is lovely (and dog-friendly). Nothing not to like about that.
We enjoyed a mild spring evening with Woody and shared a beer on our after-dinner walk this evening.
It's a beautiful river.
Here are this evening's views (on April 7) from the deck at the Liquid Center at New Belgium. Nice.
And a collection of posts from walking along the French Broad River in the Biltmore Estate.
