Inspiration in old buildings

I started a 4 Sundays acrylic painting class yesterday — a free class via the Heritage Bas St. Laurent English outreach program, at the library where I volunteer.

I hadn’t used acrylics since childhood, so that was a new adventure. Similar to watercolor, but totally different. The anti-drying gel that the instructor brought was old, so had an unpleasantly moldy smell that we all commented on, the instructor, too— hopefully, that will be solved for the next few weeks of class.

It was fascinating how each of us in the class produced a different piece for the first day (to be continued over the next classes).  Our instructor had us chose images that we wanted to emulate, although a couple of folks had different images that they wanted to try.

I chose a Quebec calendar scene that depicted a house and outbuildings with similar coloring to ours, in a winter guise; fitting, I thought.  I would have brought my iPad with a photo of our own house, but only had my iPhone (a bit small for "copying.")

This was my first afternoon’s work, waiting for refinement next Sunday.

  2. How fun to be able to enjoy creating art. I find my scrapbooking and sewing good for my soul. I envy artists. I hope you get non-smelly gel next time.
