Heading back to vegetables and spring
Our HomeExchange folks reported in their exchange review today seeing “emerging” veggies and herbs on their recent stay in our Asheville house.
I’m hoping that there are chives emerging and that the spinach has overwintered, along with the chard and kale. The spinach plants were still small when we left in early January, so I was hopeful, although not optimistic.
We’ll see what the garden looks like when we return. I have a 4-season vegetable gardening class in late March at a local nursery — such a difference than here.
Our neighbors here in Quebec, out at lunch with them today, asked what we would do first on returning. Well, check the garden, of course, not just the vegetable beds but everything else. There may be some early natives up and perhaps some tulip foliage.
We’re looking forward to our return in late May to Quebec and seeing how the newly planted lupines, etc. have fared, too. And I have vegetable gardening plans, too, as well a new friend from the English-speaking library who grows her own vegetable starts. I gave her a bunch of seeds of some of my favorites. Maybe she’ll share some of them when I return!
