Evening views

Our cottage in Quebec is quite close to Highway 132, which runs along the St. Lawrence River from Montreal all the way to the tip of the Gaspe Peninsula and returns on the other side.  It’s a two-lane highway, traveling through villages and towns along the way.

For much of the way, at least until close to Rimouski, the primary commercial city in this region, it’s paralleled by Highway 20, a four-lane highway.

In our stretch, however, since 20 hasn't been completed in this area, all of the traffic is on 132, which is quite busy in the summer.

But even in the winter, folks traveling back and forth to work, trucks moving goods east and west, and weekenders and vacationers enjoying the snowy conditions in Bas St. Laurent and the Gaspesie create a stream of traffic.

from the living room windows at dusk

From our west-facing windows, we see the arc of headlights for vehicles swooping down the long downhill curve past parc national du Bic’s farthest west entrance. It’s a bit like fairy lights moving down the slope, with the backdrop of the houses on the ridge beyond.

It’s magical at dusk, from our second bedroom and upstairs bathroom windows, as well as from my vantage point at the farmhouse table in our living room.  These photos barely suggest the dynamic quality of watching the movement of people through this landscape.
