Our proximity to Parc national du Bic

As I continue to work on my project creating a Blurb book, about our improbable acquisition of a house in Quebec, I'm reminded of why it made sense at all.  It was being close to Parc national du Bic, a magical place of diverse plant communities and wonderful trails, accessible in summer as we knew then, but also great in winter.

This Google Earth image from last summer tells the story.  The whited-out bar is where our house is; we're more or less directly across the highway at the center of the park.

The left peninsula is where my favorite summer walking path unfolds: Le Chemin du Nord. Click through for a larger image.

The entire park is wonderful in summer, fall, and winter -- the seasons that we've experienced here.

  1. Summer, fall and winter: all great. Spring is my favourite season in warmer climates. Here in Quebec, it is a muddy mess as snow melts. This is then followed by a brief day or two -- or week or two in some years -- of 'hurry up, it is almost summer.' Which is to say, spring almost isn't. But the other seasons (two of them for those who hate cold weather) can be wonderful. I'm so glad for you that you enjoy three.

    1. Pat, I don't think I'd enjoy November and December, before the snow comes, nor the muddy thaw in spring, but October was amazing last year. We're planning on staying through then next year, too.

    1. It is quite a remarkable place. There's something about the relatively small size, diverse habitats, and beautiful bays and coastal rocks combined with its cultural history of farm and summer retreat, still evident in park buildings, that's just plain special.
