Heading north

We left earlier than expected, just after our covid-test appointments. We were trying to get ahead as much as we could for the unexpected snow that blasted the Southeast.  We drove up over the pass to Johnson City, then carried on past Roanoke, VA in the rain and dark.  Not fun for either of us, but doable.  We want to return to Quebec and snow is coming by the end of the week.

That bought us time above the snow band, and even though it snowed overnight and kept snowing, we could wait until 10 am to venture forth, with winter tires, a heavy car, and a clear I-81 highway.

This image was late that morning. We didn’t leave until 10 am so this was as we started emerging from the snow band.  The snow was SO lovely, cloaking evergreens and highlighting branches on deciduous trees.

We’re in Binghamton, NY this evening.  We’re about 5-6 hours from the Canadian border.  But we’ll need a negative test to cross.  We’ll be heading towards Albany and north, to cross north of Plattsburgh.

There’s always a dance of travel, in all of the years we’ve been traveling. Not surprisingly, tonight, dinner was delicious shrimp, stir-fried broccoli, and udon noodles, from a local high-end grocer, eaten in our hotel room.  It just didn’t seem worth it to go to a local restaurant, as appealing as the BBQ and local taps might have been.
