Havre du Bic and snow geese
I'm still trying to distract myself from the damage to our mountain city of Asheville, NC, not very successfully. I mourn and worry every day.
I am privileged indeed to be here in Quebec in our cozy warm cottage. We'll return Asheville in a week and a half to two weeks, depending on the weather.
A bright spot was a visit to Havre du Bic this afternoon. The snow geese had settled in, the light was wonderful, the wind was brisk. Quebec in the fall.
I've always wanted to see a snow goose. Many years ago I read a little book about a pair, their journey, the death of one and the faithful mourning of the other. I have tried to find this book, to no avail. Last year while visiting a friend in London, I was browsing through a bookcase in a hallway. Lo and behold, I pulled out the very book. A first edition - she was so amazed. First that I even knew of the book and most of all, that of all the books in her home, I found that one.
