Canada lily (Lilium canadense)

Another great native plant here in Quebec, rare now because of habitat loss and deer herbivory!

Spotted near the main entrance road to parc national du Bic -- there were lots of browsed stems, with just a few flowers left.  There's another clump along the main highway nearby, both presumably spaces that the red deer in the park (not shy around humans at all) find a bit intimidating.

Lilium canadense (Lis du Canada, according to my field guide)

For some reason, our French language field guide translates the common name into Canada lily, which makes perfect sense, but also wild yellow lily, which doesn't, as it's quite orange!

  1. I adore lilys of all kinds. They are so rich in color. The orange is beautiful.
