Another lovely evening

I really never imagined how much I’d enjoy being in Quebec in the summer. We loved it as a short-term holiday destination, but it’s proved to be that and more.

The cool air is streaming in the windows this evening, as the heat and humidity has dissipated.  The low tonight will be in the mid-50°s F.

Our evening excursion brought us by an interesting local organic strawberry/vegetable farm, made even more interesting with our conversation with the proprietor, a fellow who is now working his family property,, after 17 years in the Yukon running a land surveying business.  He spoke excellent English from his time in the Yukon.

It’s the tail end of the strawberry session, so berries are now available only as u-pick.  He descrbed how he sponsors refugees in Rimouski (from Africa) to help harvest in peak season, and helps them negotiate the immigration system. He’d started doing that in the Yukon with his business there, with good results.  Heartening to hear about his support for immigrants and refugees.

He’s a cousin of our neighbors down the road, and knows the sons of our across the road neighbors, so it’s a small community.  Lovely.

This was the view from his home place, newly built a few years back.

And the sunset from the village of Le Bic on the way back.

    1. It's remarkably lovely here, just as Western North Carolina is. The main difference here is the pastoral working landscapes and the large expanse of sky, I think.

    1. We so enjoyed talking to him; it was a happy story. Immigrants from Cameroon in Rimouski -- well, we had no idea. And, he said some of them were relatives of folks he'd hired in the Yukon via job exchanges in Montreal. Amazing.
