An ornamental cherry fruit

This cherry tree flowers before we return to Quebec in spring, but hopefully provides nectar and pollen for emerging bumblebee queens.  Fruit set is always good;  they're small hard cherries, not enticing yet for birds.  This year was particularly prolific.

A small group of fruits proved to be a challenging drawing.  I practiced a bit of shading and creating tonal values ahead of my drawing.  I definitely can "see" how shading and light affect depth in a drawing, but definitely require more practice.  In this drawing, I used pen values to create emphasis and varied the darkness of the greens and browns with some success.

But the combination is encouraging, and I'm also thinking that recording my practice has me posting daily again!
