A back woodland garden

Our native woodland garden, "restored" to a mix of native understory trees, shrubs, and herbs, to accompany the native canopy forest, has been a joy through spring and now early summer.

I'm grateful that I look out into this forest from my studio windows.  I see Campsis radicans in flower now, climbing up a massive oak trunk.  My gardening companion tried to eradicate it, rethinking its planting (it's an assertive native vine and will spread horizontally on the surface,  but it persisted -- and is lovely at the moment, with flowers reaching toward the direction of sunlight).

Equally impressive is the Black Cohosh, now flowering near the house.  Viewed from the deck (above my small studio), its graceful presence welcomes us to our place in the world.
