A wonderful part of the world

We're so fortunate to live in the Southern Appalachians - a wonderfully biodiverse place; there are ancient mountains here with an abundant diversity of plants and animals.

I've been back and forth down to the Blue Ridge Escarpment several times recently for programs and landscape visits,  but today's journey brought me all the way down to Greenville (a swoop all the way down the Escarpment), over a once familiar path back to Clemson, where we lived for many years, dividing time in the last 8 years between here in Asheville and Clemson, on weekends and in summer, until we moved here full-time in 2015.

Coming back up the Escarpment reminded me of how happy we always were to return to the mountains from the Piedmont.  It was beautiful today.

the French Broad River at Biltmore
I didn't have the opportunity to pull off the road to take a photo.  So this one, of the French Broad River, at Biltmore Estate, from a couple of days ago, will honor the spirit of place, and of being at home in the mountains of Western North Carolina
