Walking towards downtown Asheville

Last evening, I walked by the Basilica of St. Lawrence close to sunset on a loop through downtown.  The skies were lovely.

And I'm thinking now, in context, who was St. Lawrence?  And how do we live near a river and gulf named after him in Quebec and I walk by this special and historic place frequently and have never thought about that?

  1. You may have looked up Saint Lawrence by now but if not: he is patron saint of the poor and of cooks, presumably because he was said to have been killed by being roasted on a spit. I will leave you to decide whether this is an appropriate fate for cooks!

    1. Hmm, he doesn’t seem to have an obvious connection to either the Basilica or the Gulf/River, but… thanks for the information about him. Tim was going to check later this evening, but I hadn’t done so.
