Cold nights ahead

I’m feeling glad that I didn’t sow any spinach, kale, or lettuce seeds last month as we returned from Quebec. There are cold nights ahead, in the lower 20’s F, exceptionally cold for this time of year in the mountains of Western North Carolina.

Even seedlings of hardy crops wouldn’t fair well, even in my stone raised beds (with retained heat), and even under cover, if I pulled out the hoops and remay.

Glad to have had the final harvest of Swiss chard, in any case.
