Spring is here

A friend posted a lovely piece yesterday about returning to Portland to spring, after a vacation sojourn in a much drier place.

Spring, indeed, is a time of spectacular cherry trees and our native trees in flower, too, here in Asheville.   We have native spring woodland wildflowers in evidence now, along with greening of deciduous trees.  The Asian cherry trees here are in almost full flower, with our native redbuds and dogwoods not long behind.  Lovely!

Cool season veggies are doing well in my raised beds, providing a harvest of over-wintered spinach for dinner, with various kales, red mustard, and herbs coming along well, planted after our return.

My friends in Quebec report that everything is still covered in snow; they expect a fleeting spring.

I'll be back there in mid-May, getting ready to plant my vegetable garden there as soon as seems possible, with fruit trees to plant, too. Tim had readied my vegetable garden bed last fall and will prepare the spots for the fruit tree saplings, too.
