In Asheville (Biltmore Estate)
I've done a number of FB direct posts about being back in Asheville over the last week, but wanted to mark a return to Biltmore Estate today.
I was hopeful the trail along the French Broad River would be open for walking and biking. It was, and looks great, as does most of the Estate.
The staff has done a remarkable job of cleaning up the damage on the main Estate roads. Downed trees, etc. are largely gone and the path along the river looks fine. It was beautiful on a chilly Sunday morning.
The entrance loop road up by the House is open now, with the Walled Garden planted, ready for spring. It's still in winter guise, with violas and tulip foliage apparent. We didn't stop at the Conservatory, but I'm sure it's wonderful, as usual.
Leaving the Estate, the Swannanoa River is still surrounded by debris on the other side, with the Estate side largely cleaned up and repaired. All of the fields have been prepared for planting; cover crops are in the strips that are normally planted with sunflowers.
It was a heartening visit. Another favorite place to return, too, with a sense of normalcy. Biltmore Village, too, is well on the way to renovation, although being open is a long way off.
