Places to call home
We are fortunate to have two places that we call home. The Southern Appalachians in Asheville, North Carolina and the Northern Appalachians in Eastern Quebec.
Both places speak to me in terms of landscape; mountains and rivers, especially.
Our small houses in both places are totally different.
In Asheville, we live in a modern infill cottage close to downtown. It houses Southern pine antiques and art and textiles from our travels. The walls are tinted with sage, tan, and adobe colors. It totally reflects us as does the naturalistic landscape.
In Quebec, we live in a wonderfully historic cottage, a former schoolhouse, that feels like a house museum, thanks to the previous owner, an antique dealer. We bought the house turn-key, wanting the Quebecois pine furniture, which fits the house.
So returning recently to Asheville was a interesting shape-shift - back to our familiar house landscape (and urban tourist city) from our historic house (and wonderful natural landscapes nearby.)
Both are wonderful and familiar, so grateful to have both places feel like home.
