Doing art

I was reminded again, of the benefits of doing art, as I did a chickadee watercolor through a Cornell Ornithology lab class. I was dipping my brush back in. In the process, cleaning up, I tipped over the water glass, and rescued the large scale drawings (below my desk) that I'd done long ago.

They were done during an ongoing drawing class at the newly restored Clemson Arts Center in 2008.  It was hard to go each week for 2 hours, in the evening, while I was still working, but rewarding, too.

Looking at the drawings that I did back then, well, they don't look so bad. Perhaps I can tiptoe into calling myself an artist, too, even if an infrequent one.  I don't have a digital image of a portrait sketch I made, of three young women in Tanzania, from a photograph.  I was most impressed by that, looking back.

But this sunflower was representative, too.

I need to do new digital photos of all of these drawings back then, as it's so much better and easier now.

This is as I order new cards with more recent images to send out with New Year's greetings.

  1. I tried to comment with my Google Acct but could not get it to work. I waited too late for the watercolor class as it was full when I tried to enroll. The sunflower is beautiful. Maggie

    1. Thanks, Maggie. I was surprised (again) at some of the drawings that I did in that class. I think part of it was the discipline of having to work on pieces for 2 hours each week!
