Thanksgiving thoughts

I‘ve made cornbread stuffing for years, using half cornbread, half white bread.  It‘s been a mid-century recipe, modified from the Betty Crocker‘s recipe in the cookbook inherited from my mom.

To my surprise this evening, looking at the original recipe again, it didn‘t have cornbread in it.  And I don‘t use butter, simply the concentrated broth, celery, onions and poultry seasoning (which is a vanishing spice, I found this year).

Did my mom add the cornbread?  I guess she did, although she wasn‘t a particularly innovate cook.

My dog-eared copy of Betty Crocker‘s Picture Cook Book is still in my cookbook collection.  A time piece, for sure.

  1. I may have that same cookbook packed away somewhere. I do have a hardback Betty Crocker cookbook I still use frequently - I was recently gathering ingredients for an applesauce cake. (Maggie) Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving!
