From late spring to early spring
It's remarkable to drive roughly 1350 miles from Asheville, North Carolina to Le Bic (Rimouski), Quebec in mid May.
We've traveled from fully developed late spring, with trees leafed out, early spring flowers past, and the green forest behind our house quite evident.
Now, arriving in Bic, it feels like early spring, chilly at 41° F. The high tomorrow is 44° F. The dandelions aren't in flower yet, just a few early native spring wildflowers (a Trillium) transplanted a few years ago.
Trees are just leafing out. The scene is definitely early spring here in spite of the date. When it stops raining, I'll turn my vegetable beds for planting.
Much too early for warm-season transplants now!
It is fascinating to travel north to south or vice-versa during spring or fall, isn't it? Our spring here in Madison has been earlier than "normal," with some transitioning to summer growth and blooms. But now we're hitting a cold snap for a few days, so any plants that were blooming before it hit will have a longer bloom time. Enjoy your transition to more spring. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Beth. It's remarkably chilly here at the moment - like winter in Asheville!
